About Colton Quast
February 25, 1994 - February 19, 2020
(Forever 25)
Colton was a dedicated MHHS Hawks football player from
grades 7-12. Football became his passion ... he truly lived and
breathed the game. The Hawks Football Program along with his
teammates and his coaches, played a very integral role in
shaping him into the incredible young man he became. He gained
many important life skills along the way that he continued to
carry with him as an adult. Discipline, commitment, teamwork,
resilience, respect, and even time management, all which shaped
him into a "team player" and a leader both on and off the field.
Colton graduated from high school in 2012 after a very
successful year of football (his passion). He was so honored and
excited to represent all of southern Alberta as a member of the
Senior Bowl South team where he was scouted for a few Colleges
and Universities. After a few injuries had sidelined him, he
decided it was time to hang up his cleats rather than sustain
more injuries that could possibly affect his desired career in
law enforcement. After 1 year of Criminal Justice studies,
however, he made the decision to follow his heart, and his
beautiful girlfriend Taylor. Together, they moved from our
hometown of Medicine Hat to Edmonton in 2015, where she attended
university to complete her final 2 years of her teaching degree.
Colton took a job as an apprentice electrician, and over the
next 5 years, Taylor graduated and settled into a job with the
Edmonton school district teaching grade one, while Colton worked
for a commercial electrical company and went to school to
complete his journeyman’s ticket. They got engaged in the summer
of 2018 and had the most beautiful life planned ahead of them.
Until the unimaginable happened.
Tragically, in 2020 at the age of 25, Colton lost his life in a
workplace accident. In his memory, we have proudly partnered
together in hopes of creating growth, sustainability and more
community involvement and awareness in the importance of such
athletic programs, and so that we may continue to keep this
incredible athletic program running for young kids. The Medicine
Hat High School Hawks Football Program relies on approximately
$50,000 annually to operate and provide opportunities for young
athletes - many of whom wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to
play. In 2025, this event raised $25,000 which made a
significant impact on the program, the players and their
families! Colton would be so honored to be a part of this.
